About Oakbank Racing Club
The horse racing sport has been a common entertainment feature in Australia for centuries. There are quite a few horse racing courses dotted around the country, with Oakbank Racing Club being one of them. Since its inception in 1876 the club and its following has grown in leaps and bounds, now reaching spectator support of up to 70 000 people at just one of their events.
Up until 2009 the Oakbank Racing Club used to only showcase 2 events per year, but going forward up to 4 major events are featured on their events calendar. Steeplechasing and jumping, as well as flat racing are common races on this circuit.
The Oakbank Horse Racing Events Calendar
The Oakbank Racing Club hosts a few events a year. The rest of the year the horse racing club is used for horse training and sometimes the venue is rented out for milestone parties and corporate events.
The more popular horse racing events include the Hills Gourmet Gallop which takes place around the mid March, as well as the Oakbank Easter Racing Carnival which consists of the Easter Saturday Races, and the Easter Monday Races. The Easter Carnival is quite popular amongst trainers as well as one of the races is the Oakbank Stakes race, which is a sprint race.
The Hills Gourmet Gallop
This prestigious horse racing event is a lead up to the Easter Racing Carnival. The racing club partners with a few well-known brands, one of which is the Hills wineries. That being said attendees can expect an outstanding display of food and wine to accompany the day’s festivities. The Hills Gourmet Gallop horse racing event launches the South Australian jumps racing season.
Ticket prices to the Hills Gourmet Gallop is around $15 each, with concessions at $10 and children’s tickets at $5.
The Easter Racing Carnival
The Easter Racing Carnival takes place over Easter weekend, one of them being on Easter Saturday, and the other on Easter Monday.
The Easter Racing Carnival is known to be the largest horse race gathering across the world pulling in an average of 100 000 people across the 2 day event.
The carnival has a few different races on the day including the Von Doussa Hurdle Race with $100 000 prize money, the Great Eastern Steeple Chase with $160 000 prize money. There is also the Yalumba Hurdle with $100 000 prize money, the Onkaparinga Cup with $50 000 prize money, and the Yalumba Handicap at $50 000 prize money.
Many trainers look forward to the sprint race, the Oakbank Stakes. The prize money in this feature is $80 000).
There are wide open picnic spaces for friends and families to gather for the day as well as a variety of activities that take place throughout the day including the Paddocks which is a trendy food and wine precinct, a kids zone area for 3 – 12 year olds with a few games and activities to keep them busy, as well as a few vendor stalls for all ages to enjoy.
Ticket prices are currently $30 for adults, $15 concessions and free for children under the age of 13 years.
